Tips for fresh graduates

Recent graduates often complain that they are trapped within a vicious circle. They cannot get a job without experience, but cannot develop that experience without a job.

The trick is to think about the skills you have developed throughout your studies, summer jobs and internships.

Most graduate recruiters will look for general skills such as time management, customer service, project management, interpersonal skills, responsibility and technical skills.

Think about which of these you have already begun to develop through your experience.

Then think about which of these are most important in the job you are applying for. For example, an entry-level sales job might require confidence, persistence, interpersonal skills and questioning techniques.

Tailor your resume to the job. Make it very clear within your resume which of the required skills you have, and how you have already demonstrated them.
